Two River Pictures Nominated for James Beard Foundation Award

2011 James Beard Award Nominee

Two River Pictures has been nominated for a 2011 James Beard Foundation Award in the category of Broadcast Media (Television Special/Documentary) for the one hour special The Four Coursemen on Cooking Channel. The team at Two River was ecstatic when we heard the news. After a long and work intensive process you usually know well if you have created something extraordinary and we felt we had done just that. Receiving the nomination alone was a big boost and provided further validation that the sweat equity that went into the production of the show was not lost on others.

Deemed “the Oscars of the food world,” by Time magazine, The James Beard Foundation Awards are the country’s most coveted honor for chefs; food and beverage professionals; broadcast media, journalists, and authors working on food; and restaurant architects and designers.

Two River acknowledges and gives great thanks to The Four Coursemen for all of their work in making a great special and sharing their talents with the world. We are proud of what we created together and are grateful that others (including the James Beard Foundation) recognize how extraordinary the special is.

We are looking forward to the Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards Dinner on May 6th at Espace, and regardless of the outcome feel truly honored to be nominated for our work.

The Four Coursemen

Two River is a fan of Steven Cavendish of the Chicago Tribune. This guy knows his TV. Steve recently wrote an article in the stew for the Ten @ 10 series dubbed “Ten Food Television Shows You Should Be Watching”. Imagine our delight when we found the Four Coursemen, a 1 hour special Two River Pictures produced for Cooking Channel coming in at number 3 on the list.

The cinematography is achingly beautiful….

The only thing more thrilling than seeing our work on that list was reading what he had to say about the show.
Here’s the excerpt:

3. The Four Coursemen
The Cooking Channel has done an intriguing series of one-off shows and this one, about a group of friends who run a weekend dinner club in Athens, Ga., was rightfully nominated for a James Beard award. The group travels throughout the state gathering items for the dinner – to Ossabaw Island for a heritage breed hog, for example – and then prepares it for 30 or so diners.

This is Grade A food porn.

The cinematography is achingly beautiful, the friends seem like people you’d want to hang out with and the food will make you hungry. This is Grade A food porn. (Cooking Channel)

Reading this in the tribune was a wonderful acknowledgement of all of the hard work and passion that went into creating the show from both our team, The Four Coursemen and Cooking Channel. We thank Steve for tipping his hat to our team in the weeks leading up to the James Beard Awards (yeah, the show is up for one of those too!) while optimistically looking forward to the future and the many great things to come. Stay Tuned!
